How I make my cosplays: Part 01

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 17, 2011, 11:42 AM
Hello, how are you guys? =]

I was reallly anxious to do this journal. Some weeks ago I asked on twitter if it would be nice if I write something about how I make my cosplays.
Some nice people really motivated me with good feedback. Well...I hope that you like and enjoy my first article about it!
I must say that this is not a tutorial, but maybe you get some good ideas for your props based on these ones

Starting with Seto, my cosplay from Fragile Dreams

To do Seto I really focused on details. This character has a lot of belts and equipment, like a survivor in manga stories.
I started with the "chest", the kinda can where he saves the food. Here you can see some of the materials I used (Yesh, I work messy, I know : D)

This brown board is rubber! And my 3DS is also a good material (?)

The whole chest was made with this rubber, basically. After constructing the body as you can see on figure 03, I started to involve it with paper and glue, to be more strong (figure 02).

Always use old paper that you don't need anymore, you're helping to recycle! =]

After that I just painted everything

It was really nice to do, especially the old parts effect '-'

To the golden part I made with a plastic/PVC can (the same as a water hose). I used a golden spray painter and a little of black paint in some areas, to look like old metal as you can see on the pictures below.

Here are the details of the sides of the chest, the pieces were made with paperboard, paper and glue again to be strong

Some belt prop at the beggining of construction. You use it on the shoulders

I made all my belts with a material that reminds leather, but it's not. EDIT: It's name is probably "Pleather" (thank you Bisected8 !) , it has two different sides, one is a kind of rubber, the other is a strong cloth.

Second part of this article will come soon with more details of the cosplay. This is a really short explanation about how I made it and I hope it can be useful for you guys
Hope you have fun with your cosplays!

Thank you for this pic, lu-phoenix

Also, thanks to my boyfriend TheEyeProjects for being the best support ever! Love you ><

Well, it's like a rubber board. I really dunno where to get in another country besides Brazil, but normally we could find in any store that sells school materials or paper stuff.

We call it EVA (you pronounce the letters separately)
